This
paper examines the theoretical and practical aspects of creating a database of
testaments of the dukes of Muscovy of the 14th–16th centuries. Today we have a
complex archive of about a hundred such documents. For the markup of this archive,
we leverage XML (and standards based on it), as well as the methods of diplomatics,
which allows us to trace the evolution of the form and the content of
documents.
