This article aims to
discuss the evolution of the neutralization of “high” lexical style from the
middle of 17th century till the beginning of 19th century. The analysis of
approaches used by Avvakhum, the authors of democratic satire, M.V. Lomonosov,
and A.S. Pushkin is given from perspective of the semantic and stylistic
transformation of Church Slavonic words.
